New technologies in translation: do spanish universities have the resources to update trainers?

Abstract

The training of trainers in translation has been gaining weight in the research ield. However, there are no previous studies that speciically analyze the training of university teachers who teach technology courses in university translation programs. For this reason, this study has the double objective of knowing and determining the technology training needs required by university translation teachers for their classes, as well as the solutions provided by universities in this regard. For data collection, we used as an instrument a questionnaire in which participated 26 teachers who teach courses of translation technology in diferent Spanish universities. The results show that the majority of teachers make a great efort in a particular way to be in line with the requirements of the market, but there is no institutional support that responds to their needs to be up to date in technological matters.
