Objective: To identify effective interventions for promoting the adoption of HIV prevention measures among Latin American migrants. Methodology: A search was conducted on PubMed-Medline, Scopus, EBSCO-Host, and SciELO for articles published between 2000 and 2022, using the keywords Migrants, Sexual Behavior, HIV, Condom, and HIV Testing, alongside filters provided by the ISSG Search Filter Resource. Data extraction was performed using the Critical Appraisal Tools 3.0 platform, followed by a narrative synthesis of the variables. Results: Five articles were included, revealing beneficial outcomes from interventions targeting various factors relevant to HIV prevention. The studies focused on migrant populations residing in different US states, including Texas, North Carolina, and Florida, which are among the top ten states with the highest Latino migrant populations. Conclusion: This review allowed us to describe effective interventions for HIV prevention among Latin American migrants, highlighting at least two interventions with well-defined methodologies conducive to reproducibility. One aspect that could enhance the findings of future approaches to the literature is expanding the databases and consider the gray literature, as its inclusion is crucial in the review process.
2024-03-13T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Revista Chilena de Enfermeríahttps://comunicacionymedios.uchile.cl/index.php/RCHE/article/view/72566Assessment of the nursing process formulation among second-year students at a state university2024-01-23T15:32:22+00:00María Alejandra Manganoalejandra.mangano@upso.edu.arSara Leonor Mercadosara.mercado@upso.edu.ar
Introduction: The Nursing Process is a foundational tool for the practice of the nursing profession, requiring cognitive, technical, and communication skills for its adequate implementation. Consequently, teaching and learning the Nursing Process entail certain complexities. Objectives: To describe the performance of second-year nursing students within an institution located in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the execution of the Nursing Process. Methodology: Descriptive, cross-sectional documentary study, with a quantitative emphasis. A total of 160 works were analyzed based on variables that describe the assessment, the diagnoses, and the care plans designed within the Nursing Process. Data analysis was carried out using simple descriptive statistics. Results: The study revealed that students encounter greater challenges in the stage of formulating actual and potential diagnoses, with percentages of 63.75% and 56.25%, respectively. Furthermore, difficulties were observed in identifying risk factors (63.75%) and prioritizing needs (55.63%). Additionally, the care activities lacked a coherent sequence that was aligned with the needs presented in the clinical case (57.50%). Conclusions: The difficulties identified through this study need to be resolved. To this end, a pedagogical intervention is proposed, centered on active learning, collaborative work, and constructive feedback. The implementation of theoretical-practical workshops featuring clinical case studies and peer evaluation is recommended. Furthermore, this proposed intervention could potentially be extended to other populations.
2024-04-18T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Revista Chilena de Enfermeríahttps://comunicacionymedios.uchile.cl/index.php/RCHE/article/view/73659Benefits, Adverse Effects, and the Role of Nursing Professionals in Bariatric Surgery2024-02-27T19:34:55+00:00Roberto Antonio Fuentealba Leytonrfuentealba5@santotomas.clJessica Pamela Noack Segoviarfuentealba5@santotomas.clViviana Andrea Chávez Vergararfuentealba5@santotomas.clAntonia Alejandra Galeano Méndezrfuentealba5@santotomas.cl
Objective: To describe evidence of the benefits, adverse effects, and the role of nursing professionals in bariatric surgery. Introduction: Obesity has reached concerning levels in Chile, posing a public health challenge. In this context, bariatric surgery emerges as a crucial intervention for patients with obesity who do not achieve results with conventional approaches. While notable benefits are evident in individuals opting for this surgical procedure, there are also risks and adverse effects on the physical, psychological, and social aspects. The initially positive relationship between bariatric surgery and quality of life can become unfavorable due to lack of adherence to postoperative recommendations. Nursing professionals play an important role in preparing and monitoring patients undergoing bariatric surgery, providing education and emotional support. Exhaustive pre- and postoperative assessment is crucial, with a significant contribution of these professionals in the comprehensive care of these patients. Conclusions: Bariatric surgery should not be considered as an isolated solution but as part of a multidisciplinary approach that includes lifestyle changes. It is essential to promote collaboration among healthcare professionals, highlighting the significant role of nursing professionals in improving the outcomes and quality of life of patients with obesity undergoing this intervention.
2024-04-13T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Revista Chilena de Enfermeríahttps://comunicacionymedios.uchile.cl/index.php/RCHE/article/view/73775Challenges and benefits of integrating nursing epistemology in the clinical practice of critical care units2024-01-29T14:41:28+00:00Camilo Silva Sánchezcamilosilva86@gmail.comJosé Francisco Carrera Alarcónjcarrera@enfermeria.ucsc.cl2024-02-02T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 Revista Chilena de Enfermeríahttps://comunicacionymedios.uchile.cl/index.php/RCHE/article/view/74252My Health, My Right.
