Managing Bogota film festivals: Beyond audience

Abstract

Interviews with four Bogota film festivals pretends to reveal motivations, challenges and positions about their labor, highlighting their major role in alternative film exhibition. Testimonies of Bogoshorts film festival, MIDBO, El Espejo and Smartfilms seek to highlight their perspective on how they conceive the purpose of their events and reveals other challenges around the realization and management of those events. Besides, the role of an audience formator, attributed by the Colombian State, is contrasted with the declarations of programmers and creators of these events. In this way, this paper also includes testimonies of employees the Ministry of Culture and Bogota´s Cinematheque, with the purpose to put in dialogue what festivals expressed about their management challenges.
