The prevention in primary care of substance abuse in adolescents: a bibliographic review regarding

Authors

Abstract

The following research had the purpose of investigating the strategies carried out for the prevention of substance use in adolescents, located in the primary health care practices. The methodology used was a bibliographic review of articles indexed in electronic databases, such as Occupational Therapy Systematic Evaluation of Evidence, Clinical Key, Esmeralda Insight, Web Of Science, Medline, Springer, SAGE Journals, Redalyc, Scielo, Nature, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, World Wide Science and PubMed, where the following descriptors were used: "Substance use", "Adolescence", "Primary Care" and "Prevention". Among the main results, a total of seven studies stand out, from Latin America and North America, where various strategies are grouped into five axes: detection of consumption, such as the use of evaluation guidelines, use of technologies, which evokes the creation of multimedia material, cognitive-behavioural model that proposes the use of counselling and educational posters, community articulation where the aim is to coordinate the health and educational network, and self-care strategies related to the choice of healthy activities and occupations.  These results prompted a discussion regarding the evidence found on strategies for the prevention of drug use, with the understanding that there is a need for greater systematization of practices and strategies that are effective in the preventive approach to PHC of the adolescent population in Chile and Latin America, facilitated by public policies that are relevant to the context of the health system and associated risk factors.
