La producción académica desarrollada por investigadores adscritos a universidades peruanas en el campo de las ciencias de la comunicación ha sido poco documentada y sistematizada. El propósito de este artículo es analizar las principales características de dicha producción. Para ello se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura y un análisis bibliométrico de los documentos científicos publicados en Scopus hasta el año 2024. Los resultados muestran que, desde 2008, se han publicado 689 documentos, con un incremento significativo a partir de 2018. Las universidades peruanas con mayor producción científica son privadas y se encuentran principalmente en la ciudad capital, Lima. Veinte universidades tienen menos de diez artículos publicados en Scopus y otras tres no registran ningún documento. El tipo de documento más publicado es el artículo científico, escrito en inglés o español. Finalmente, artículos que abordan temas sobre marketing, comunicación organizacional y redes sociales predominan.
